Rebecca Byrom is the owner of Something Special with Herbs. Rebecca designs, and offers workshops in, home decorations using flowers, herbs and other natural products. Her creations include wreathes, sprays, lavender wands, and table centerpieces. Also a member of Diablo Women’s Garden Club (and former member of LGC), she will show us her favorite Irish Gardens and create some Herb Arrangements.
Pamela Berstler co-founded and continues to manage G3, Green Gardens Group, and is also currently the Executive Director of Pacific Horticulture Society. She focuses on gardens that promote biodiversity, sequester carbon, cool the atmosphere, build water reserves, and are gorgeous as well! She believes it’s time we all start to Garden Like the World Depends on it, because it does.
Tora Rocha, the founder of Pollinator Posse, will speak about native pollinators in our area, the plants and other resources needed to attract/support them, and ways to create beautiful gardens with these plants in mind. She recently won a Jefferson Award (a national honor started by Jackie Onassis) for public service regarding pollinator gardens while working with park rangers and schools.
Judy Thomas formed her own consulting company, Bay Area Plant Consultants, in 1996, and serves as a consulting arborist and landscape advisor for attorneys, insurance companies and homeowners in tree-related cases. She taught full time in the Dept. of Landscape Horticulture at Merritt College in Oakland for 30 years and will educate us on Trees and Mediterranean Plants.
John Greenlee is an expert in grass ecology and champion of sustainable design. He has created Beautiful Meadows Gardens all around the world including the San Diego Zoo, the Getty Center in Los Angeles and many private residences. He is the author of “The American Meadow Garden: Creating a Natural Alternative to the Traditional Lawn”.
Daniel Nolan spent almost 10 years at the famed Flora Grubb Gardens in San Francisco before forming his own design business. His work, in some of the Bay Area's most beautiful residential and commercial properties, is described and pictured in his 2018 book “Dry Gardens: High Style for Low Water Gardens”.
Jill Appenzeller is a member of the Royal Horticultural Society, the California Horticultural Society and the American Society of Landscape Architects. She is past President and Program Chair of Diablo Women’s Garden Club and author of “Postcards from the Hedge: Seasons in a Suburban Garden”. As she prepares floral arrangements, Jill will talk about Thinking Outside the Vase, about sustainable flowers, growing what you arrange or seeking out local sources.
Robin Parer is one of the world's most knowledgeable collectors and propagators of Geraniums and Pelargoniums. She is the owner of Geraniaceae, a small mail-order nursery in Marin County and is one of the founders of the Bay Area Horticultural Society. She wrote and illustrated “The Plant Lover’s Guide to Hardy Geraniums”.
